Influencer licence in Dubai, before the brand deal

Brand posts in the UAE rest on two permissions: a licence for your business and an Advertiser Permit in your own name.

An influencer licence in Dubai is two permissions held together. The business holds a trade or freelance licence from DET or a free zone, and the creator holds an Advertiser Permit from the National Media Authority. The permit has been enforced since 1 February 2026 for paid and gifted posts. Promoting only your own business is exempt.

What an influencer licence in Dubai covers

The licence follows what brands pay you for, in money or in products. Platform income sits on it too.

Add a merchandise line or a creator agency at the start. The permit application rests on the activity wording on the licence.

Mainland or free zone for a creator

Both routes give the permit a licence to rest on. Who pays you decides, and so does the visa.

A free zone company can bill Dubai brands through a DET branch licence or permit (Executive Council Resolution 11 of 2025). Mainland marketing income usually sits outside the QFZP 0% rate.

Advertiser permit in the UAE, in order

The National Media Authority has been the federal media regulator since January 2026. It issues the Advertiser Permit to a person, and only once that person holds a licence with an electronic media or advertising activity.

Who needs the Advertiser Permit?

Two questions settle it: whose product the post promotes, and whose account it goes out on.

Visiting creators apply through a licensed advertising or talent agency. The permit lasts three months and can be extended to six in total.

Platform payouts and the bank

Bank viewStandard, with questions on platform payouts and foreign brand fees

Banks treat a creator's company as a standard service business. Their questions follow the money. Platform payouts arrive from abroad in varying amounts, brand fees come from agencies, and some deals pay in products. A compliance officer wants to see who pays and why. We put the brand contracts, platform statements and the Advertiser Permit into the bank file, so the review sees a working business.

AMLNot a DNFBP activity; the bank's own customer checks still apply.

Where creator setups go wrong

  1. Treating the company licence as the permit

The licence lets the business trade. The Advertiser Permit is personal and sits on top of it. A creator with a licensed company still posts without authority until the permit is issued in their own name.

  2. Gifted posts left out of the count

Promotion paid in hotel stays, meals or products counts the same as a cash fee. Gift-only creators often assume the permit is for paid work. They usually find out from a brand's contract team.

  3. An activity wording the permit cannot rest on

A general consultancy activity can look close enough at setup. The permit application asks for a licence covering electronic media or advertising, so we match the wording to the permit before the licence is issued.

Ask on WhatsApp

Who needs an influencer licence in Dubai?

Anyone who publishes promotional content in the UAE for a brand, whether paid in money or in products. Residents need a trade or freelance licence plus a personal Advertiser Permit from the National Media Authority. Promoting only your own business or products on your own account is exempt from the permit.

Is the influencer permit in Dubai the same as a trade licence?

No. The trade or freelance licence comes from DET or a free zone and lets your business trade. The Advertiser Permit comes from the National Media Authority, is issued to you as a person, and rests on that licence. Brands and agencies are expected to check that the permit is valid.

What does a resident need for an influencer permit?

A valid trade or freelance licence that lists an electronic media or advertising activity, an applicant aged 18 or over, and good conduct with no earlier media violations. The permit then runs for a year and is renewed yearly. We check the activity wording before the licence issues, because that is where applications usually come back.

Do I need an advertiser permit to promote my own business?

Usually not. A person promoting their own products, services or company on their own account is exempt. The exemption stops when someone else posts for you. A creator you hire, or a staff member publishing promotions, needs an Advertiser Permit of their own, and the account still follows media content rules.

Can a visiting influencer post paid content in the UAE?

Yes, with a Visitor Advertiser Permit. The creator applies through a licensed advertising agency or accredited talent agency, which represents them under a contract with the brand. Only the agency can file it. The permit runs for three months and can be extended once, to six months in total.
