RAKEZ: the UAE's value zone, built for industry. Right for you?

Best for manufacturers and warehousing that need real industrial space, and cost-led SMEs who want a credible UAE company at the lowest sensible price. If you need a prestige Dubai address or daily proximity to Dubai clients, this is not your zone.

You work with Manish directly, not a sales desk. We say plainly when RAKEZ is not the right home for your business, and when a Dubai zone is worth the extra cost.

Where it sits

A value zone in Ras Al Khaimah, at the very bottom of the cost curve.

Companies set up as free zone limited liability companies with 100% ownership and full profit repatriation. RAKEZ is a single licensing authority covering several business and industrial zones, and one of the cheapest credible entry points in the UAE.

The honest fit

Who RAKEZ is right for, and who it is not.

The section a sales page never writes. Read both sides and decide for yourself. If your case points away from RAKEZ, we say so.

Right for RAKEZ

  • Manufacturers, processors and assemblers needing a factory, warehouse or land plot at a competitive price
  • Trading and logistics businesses that hold real stock and want low-cost warehousing, not a Dubai badge
  • Cost-led first-time founders who want one of the cheapest credible UAE companies
  • Consultants and online businesses serving clients abroad, where the Ras Al Khaimah address is a non-issue
  • Founders who may also want to invoice the Ras Al Khaimah mainland, via the RAKEZ dual licence

Not the right zone if

  • ×You need a prestige Dubai address or daily proximity to Dubai clients, a Dubai zone such as IFZA or Meydan fits better despite the cost
  • ×You trade physical commodities and need the deepest trade-finance banking, DMCC earns its higher cost
  • ×You run regulated finance, a fund, or a fintech that needs a regulator, DIFC or ADGM are the correct home; a commercial zone cannot license that
  • ×You must sell directly to the Dubai or wider UAE mainland, the RAKEZ dual licence reaches the Ras Al Khaimah mainland, not Dubai's; for Dubai you need a Dubai mainland route
  • ×The lowest headline matters more than fit, the cheapest package is a poor saving if the activity or banking is wrong
The setup reality

What setting up actually involves.

The facts, not the funnel. Your real number is set by visa count, the facility you take, and whether you need warehousing or land. We scope it in writing for your case. How we price.

Cost figures are indicative 2026 ranges, partner-quoted and revised annually. They are not your quote: we confirm current figures in writing for your activity, facility, and visa count. The Biz Starter zero-visa package can be issued within about a day; the realistic one-person, one-visa total is higher once the establishment card, visa processing, medical, Emirates ID, and insurance are added. RAKEZ also offers multi-year licences that lower the per-year cost.

The honest comparison

RAKEZ against the zones it is actually weighed against.

Real year-one numbers and the trade-offs that change your business, not a generic feature grid. RAKEZ is the lowest-cost industrial option. Here is what you gain and give up against each alternative.

Figures are indicative 2026 bands, partner-quoted and revised annually; banking and mainland ratings reflect what we see in practice. The honest read: RAKEZ and SPC fight at the floor, and RAKEZ wins when you need real industrial space or warehousing; IFZA buys a Dubai address for roughly double; DMCC earns its premium only if banking and prestige carry your business. We confirm the live number for your case in writing. Compare UAE structures side by side.

What actually decides it

Four RAKEZ decisions a generic page skips.

The zone-specific calls that decide whether a RAKEZ setup runs cleanly or gets corrected later.

01

The facility is the decision, not the licence

RAKEZ's edge is physical space. The licence is cheap; the real call is whether you need a flexi-desk, an office, a warehouse, or a land plot, because that choice sets your cost, your visa quota, and your reason to be in Ras Al Khaimah. Decide the facility first, then price it.

02

Dual licence reaches RAK mainland, not Dubai's

The RAKEZ dual licence, a free zone licence plus a RAK DED branch, serves the Ras Al Khaimah mainland and lets you bid for government contracts. It gives no Dubai mainland trading rights. If your customers are Dubai-based, settle the route before you incorporate.

03

Industrial activity wording is load-bearing

With 3,000-plus activities the goal is the right ones, not the most. For industrial and manufacturing work, the classification drives which approvals and facilities you need and how a bank reads your account. Wrong wording means a rejected licence or a banking mismatch, fixed only by paying to amend it.

04

Banking is workable, with a location nuance

Major UAE banks onboard RAKEZ entities, and the Mbank digital account is fast for many profiles. The nuance: some Dubai relationship managers are more familiar with Dubai-registered companies, so the most banking-sensitive trading profiles can face a different experience. A clean activity and ownership profile matters far more than the zone label.

What we would flag

The mistakes we see most.

  • Chasing the AED 6,000 headline, then meeting the real all-in once visas, medical, Emirates ID and insurance are added.
  • Choosing RAKEZ for the price, then finding the business needed a Dubai address for clients or banking.
  • Taking a cheap flexi-desk when the need was a warehouse or land plot, then re-doing the facility later.
  • Assuming the dual licence reaches the Dubai mainland; it reaches the Ras Al Khaimah mainland, a different thing.
  • Over-broad industrial activity wording, which means a rejected licence or a banking mismatch later.

When another route genuinely wins, the comparison above shows it. If you are still unsure, find your likely fit in four questions or book a call.

How much does a RAKEZ licence really cost in 2026, all-in?

The Biz Starter zero-visa package starts at around AED 6,000 and can be issued within about a day; that floor is genuine. A realistic one-person, one-visa all-in lands around AED 12,000 to 15,000 once you add the establishment card, visa processing (entry permit, medical, Emirates ID, stamping), mandatory health insurance, and any facility upgrade. Warehousing or a land plot is a separate, larger line. RAKEZ also offers multi-year licences that lower the per-year cost. We scope your number in writing before you commit.

Is RAKEZ really cheaper than the Dubai free zones?

Yes. RAKEZ is one of the UAE's most cost-competitive zones; its packages start lower than IFZA or Meydan, and industrial land and warehousing in Ras Al Khaimah cost less than equivalent space in central Dubai. At the very floor it is matched only by Sharjah and Ajman zones. The trade-off for the saving is location: a Ras Al Khaimah address rather than a Dubai one, a non-issue for online and international businesses and a real consideration for those who need daily Dubai proximity.

What is RAKEZ genuinely best for?

RAKEZ is strongest for industrial and manufacturing businesses, because it offers large warehouses and industrial land plots across dedicated industrial zones at competitive cost, which most Dubai zones cannot match on space or price. It also fits cost-sensitive trading companies, logistics operators that hold real stock, SMEs, and service firms that do not need a central Dubai address. It suits less those that need a prestige Dubai location, the deepest commodity-trade banking, or a common-law financial-services framework.

Can a RAKEZ company trade in the UAE mainland?

Not directly by default, but RAKEZ has a strong option. A standard RAKEZ free zone entity operates within its zone and internationally, so selling directly into the mainland normally needs a distributor, a branch, or a dual licence. RAKEZ offers a dual licence, a free zone licence paired with a Branch of a Free Zone Company licence from RAK DED, letting you operate in both the Ras Al Khaimah free zone and mainland under one office, with 100% ownership and eligibility to bid for government contracts. The nuance: this reaches the Ras Al Khaimah mainland, not Dubai's. If your customers are Dubai-based, a Dubai mainland route fits better.

How many visas can I get with a RAKEZ licence?

RAKEZ visa allocation is flexible and tied to your package and facility. Flexi-desk and starter packages carry a limited quota, while offices, warehouses, and industrial land support progressively larger numbers as the operation grows. A company owner can sponsor eligible dependants on their own residence visa. Each visa carries its own government and medical fees on top of the licence, so visa count, not the licence alone, drives the real cost. Size the quota to your real headcount, not the maximum.

How hard is it to open a bank account for a RAKEZ company?

It is workable. RAKEZ is a long-established, recognised authority and the major UAE banks onboard its entities; RAKEZ companies can also open a fully digital Mbank business account, often within a couple of days. The nuance is location: some Dubai relationship managers are more familiar with Dubai-registered companies, so the most banking-sensitive trading profiles can face a different experience than a central-Dubai zone. It is rarely a blocker. A clean activity profile and a straightforward ownership structure carry far more weight than the zone label, so if banking is critical, confirm your target bank's appetite before picking the cheapest package.

Does a RAKEZ company pay UAE corporate tax?

A RAKEZ company is within the scope of UAE corporate tax. It can pay 0% on qualifying income as a Qualifying Free Zone Person, but only if it meets all five conditions at once: adequate UAE substance, audited accounts, income strictly within qualifying categories, no disqualifying mainland income, and the de minimis threshold. Income that does not qualify is taxed at 9% above AED 375,000. Being in Ras Al Khaimah rather than Dubai does not change this, and a free zone licence does not by itself deliver 0% tax. Get qualified tax advice before relying on it.

How long does it take to set up a company with RAKEZ?

The licence stage can be fast, often a matter of days, and the Biz Starter licence is advertised as near-instant. The overall timeline is set by the visa and banking stages, usually a couple of weeks, and longer where industrial land, warehousing, or external approvals are involved. Much of the licensing can be handled remotely, but the residence visa stage needs you in the UAE for the medical test and Emirates ID biometrics. We confirm which steps require your presence before you book travel.

Can I set up a RAKEZ company remotely from outside the UAE?

Yes. The licence, the lease, and the company formation can be completed remotely, and many founders never visit for the licensing stage. The one step that needs you in the UAE is the residence visa: the medical test and Emirates ID biometrics are done in person. If you take a zero-visa package you can run the whole setup without travelling. We tell you up front which steps need your presence so you only travel once, if at all.

What is the difference between RAKEZ and RAK ICC?

They are different vehicles. RAKEZ is a free zone authority that issues an operating licence: you can hold real space, get residence visas, and trade. RAK ICC is an offshore registry for holding companies and asset structures; it gives no UAE residence visa and is not for trading inside the UAE. If you want to run an operating business from Ras Al Khaimah, RAKEZ is the right home. If you only need a holding or asset-protection vehicle, RAK ICC fits. Mixing them up is a common and costly mistake.
