What salary do I need for the Golden Visa?

A basic monthly salary of AED 30,000, on the skilled-professional route. Basic, not total. Allowances can lift your headline past the line while the basic underneath falls short, and the basic is the figure the route reads.

01

The line is basic pay. Housing, transport, and other allowances do not count toward the AED 30,000.

02

Your contract decides it, on a genuine qualifying role and a recognised qualification.

03

The figure is knowable now. Read it from your own contract before anything is filed. We read it with you.

Check the figure that counts
The misread

One package. Two very different numbers.

Take a typical AED 35,000 package. What you are paid and what the route reads are not the same figure. The route discounts the part holding the headline up.

What you are paid

AED 35,000 total. Reads like a comfortable pass.

What the route reads

Counts the basic alone. AED 5,000 short of the AED 30,000 line.

What the route actually looks at

Three things decide it, all on your own paperwork.

Enough to locate yourself, not a step-by-step application.

AED 30,000 basic, monthlyThe threshold
A genuine qualifying roleThe contract
Recognised, relevant credentialThe qualification
Where it goes wrong

The mistake is always the same.

Rarely a close call on the basic itself. A confident package, read against the wrong line.

What people assume

My package is well over AED 30,000, so the salary route is covered.

What the route does

It assesses the basic on your contract. A AED 35,000 package built on a AED 25,000 basic reads as a miss, and the file comes back rejected with the time and government charges already spent.

The costliest version is not the lost fee. It is schooling, family timing, and travel planned around a visa that was never secured, then unwound when the basic does not hold. The gap rarely closes in a week: it means renegotiating how a contract splits basic and allowances, or waiting for a real rise in basic pay. Read the figure first.

How we read it

We start with the basic figure on your contract, not the headline on your offer letter, and tell you plainly where you stand.

  • Where the basic clears AED 30,000 and your role and qualification fit the skilled-professional basis, we prepare the file to give it its best chance.
  • Where it falls short, we say so and explain what would change it, including whether a standard investor or employment visa is the sensible step for now.
  • We will not encourage a filing we can see does not hold, and the approval is the immigration authorities' to give, not ours to promise.

Our Golden Visa page covers the salary route, and the residency overview places the routes side by side.

The salary question, answered

What professionals actually ask.

Does my total package or my basic salary count for the Golden Visa?

The basic salary. The skilled-professional salary route reads the basic monthly figure on your contract, currently a line of AED 30,000, not the total package. Housing, transport, and other allowances can lift your headline above the threshold while the basic underneath falls short. Check your contract, not your payslip total.

My package is above AED 30,000 in total. Do I qualify?

Not on the total alone. If the basic component is below AED 30,000, the salary route sees a shortfall even when the overall figure looks comfortable. A AED 35,000 package built on a AED 25,000 basic plus allowances does not clear the line. Look at the basic figure on your contract, because that is the number the route reads.

If my basic falls short, what should I do instead?

There are real options, and they depend on your situation. Sometimes a contract's split of basic and allowances can be restructured genuinely; sometimes a rise in basic pay is near; and sometimes a standard investor or employment visa is the sensible step for now while the Golden Visa waits. We tell you which applies to you, rather than pushing a filing that does not hold.

Can you guarantee the Golden Visa will be approved?

No firm honestly can. The approval sits with the UAE immigration authorities, not with any advisor. What we do is read your basic figure, role, and qualification against the route before anything is filed, prepare the file to give it its best chance, and tell you candidly if we can see it will not hold. That reading protects you from spending on an application that was never going to clear.
