Electronics trading licence, wholesale and re-export

An electronics trading licence covers bulk supply of devices, and anything with a radio inside also needs TDRA type approval.

At a glance

An electronics trading licence in Dubai comes from DET on the mainland or from a free zone authority, and it covers wholesale of consumer devices. Phones, routers and anything else that transmits a radio signal need TDRA type approval, and the company registers with TDRA as a dealer before importing them. Stock held for re-export suits a free zone.

Devices you can trade in bulk

The licence covers devices bought by the carton and sold on to businesses that resell them.

Outside this licence

  • Covered by Mobile phone shop (retail)
  • Covered by Electronics repair activity
  • Covered by Household appliances trading
  • Covered by No activity, as TDRA bans their sale

Many wholesalers also want a counter for walk-in buyers. That is retail, so we add the shop activity before filing.

Selling in the UAE or shipping onward

A lot of electronics wholesale crosses borders, so the route follows where your buyers sit and where the stock waits.

A free zone distributor that supplies Dubai retailers regularly needs a DET branch licence or permit under Executive Council Resolution 11 of 2025. Those mainland sales are also tested for QFZP status.

Re-export stock fits several free zones, and the zone choice follows the warehouse space and sales visas your team needs. Compare free zones

Electronics trading licence and TDRA

DET or the free zone issues the licence first. No sector approval sits in front of it. TDRA dealer registration and type approval for each radio model follow, before the first phones or routers land.

Which of your products need TDRA?

Each product line sits at its own level, from the trade licence alone up to goods TDRA will not allow on sale.

TDRA approves equipment model by model, so a new version of a phone you already stock needs its own approval before it ships.

Bank viewA closer look at suppliers, buyers and export destinations

Banks look hard at electronics traders. Phones and chips move easily across borders, so the first questions are about who supplies you, who buys from you and which countries the goods ship to.

Re-exports to higher-risk destinations draw the longest review. We put supplier invoices, buyer contracts and the shipping routes into the account file, so the bank sees the same trade the licence describes.

Where electronics shipments get held

  1. Phones landing before dealer registration

TDRA issues a customs release for each shipment of radio equipment. Order stock before the dealer registration is in place and the cartons wait at the port. The paperwork has to catch up first.

  2. Boxes without the TDRA label

Every approved device carries TDRA's conformity label on its box, in a form that cannot be peeled off. Stock packed for another market without that label cannot be offered for sale, and retail buyers check for it.

  3. Dubai retailers served without DET cover

Regular supply to mainland shops from a free zone needs a DET branch licence or permit. Without it the sales sit outside the rules. The mainland income can also cost the company its QFZP status.

Ask on WhatsApp

How much does an electronics trading licence cost in Dubai?

The route, the warehouse or office you take and the number of visas drive it. Phones and other radio devices add TDRA dealer registration and type approval for each model.

How to start an electronics trading business in Dubai?

Start with your buyers and your product list. UAE retailers point to the mainland or a DET branch and export buyers to a free zone, and radio devices bring TDRA registration before the first order.

What are the requirements for an electronics trading licence in Dubai?

A trade licence with the electronics trading activity, premises that fit the stock and an importer code. Phones, routers and other radio equipment also need TDRA dealer registration and type approval.

Can I open an electronics trading company in a Dubai free zone?

Yes. Several free zones offer electronics wholesale, and they suit stock held for re-export. Supplying Dubai retailers on a regular basis adds a DET branch licence or permit.

Can a general trading licence sell electronics in Dubai?

Yes, consumer electronics fall within most general trading licences. TDRA rules still apply to phones and other radio devices, whichever licence the company holds.

Is TDRA approval required to sell electronics in the UAE?

Yes, for radio and telecom terminal equipment such as phones, routers and Bluetooth devices. Each model needs type approval before it is offered for sale, and the importer registers with TDRA as a dealer.

What is TDRA dealer registration?

It is TDRA's registration for companies that import, distribute or sell radio and telecom equipment in the UAE. Dealers register before bringing equipment in, then apply for type approval model by model.

What is a TDRA type approval certificate?

It confirms that a device model meets UAE standards for radio and telecom equipment. The approved model carries TDRA's conformity label on its box, and shops display it where buyers can read it.

Do I need TDRA registration to trade mobile phones wholesale?

Yes. A wholesaler importing phones registers with TDRA as a dealer and holds type approval for each model it brings in, on top of the trade licence for electronics trading.

What is ECAS certification in the UAE?

ECAS is MoIAT's conformity scheme for regulated products. Covered goods, including many low-voltage electrical items, need a UAE Certificate of Conformity backed by an accredited lab test before they go on sale.

Are mobile signal boosters legal in the UAE?

No, not for traders to sell. TDRA lists GSM boosters and jammers among prohibited equipment, so they cannot be imported for the market or stocked under an electronics licence.

Which of your lines need TDRA first?

Send us your product list and the countries your buyers sit in, and we set out the activity wording, the route and where TDRA comes in.
